EPISODE 229: Fan Access

Tokyo Dome
FFW Fan Access - Q&A
tv Asahi - Special Program

The camera gets focused on the Femme Fatale Wrestling logo before it begins to pan around a thousand screaming fans who are in attendance at the fan access booth for FFW’s Breaking Point show that will be hosted tonight at the one and only Tokyo Dome. The many Japanese fans and quite a smattering of fans who actually flew to Japan merely to see the show are all in attendance, standing by to listen to that of FFW Champion Wendy Briese, and the team of Sunny Kyoun and Steph Dallins, known more commonly as Witches’ Brew. The trio are sitting at a booth with a translator, a tall Japanese woman with a cheerful smile and brunette hair as she points to a woman with a hand raised in the audience.

Fan #1: Kimitachi wa, yaku Shijin to Yogen-sha to Tara Sandā no taikō dō kanjite imasu ka?

Translator: She asks if you guys feel confident about facing up against Tara Thunder, the No Surrender Champion and the Unity Tag Champions Of Poets & Prophets, who also has the Television Champion Lightning.

Stephanie decides to field this one as she ruffles down her Witches’ Brew tee which has rather cute hyperactive cartoon images of her and Sunny stirring a cauldron while they taste the contents with beer mugs.

Steph: Let’s not mince words. The team we’re up against has three of the most dangerous women in the company. Tara Thunder, No Surrender Champion and Femme Fatale of the Year just scored a very impressive victory over the Evolution Champion, Eileen Amaro at the pay-per-view Indomitable. Lightning defended her Television Championship and before that she and her sisters say a victory over Sudden Impact. It’s a ridiculous team we have here. By hook or by crook OPAP have been fighting off challengers but y’know what... I can’t say exactly if i’m say I’m so worried because ladies and gentlemen at the end of the day, one of the main tools that has helped see OPAP to their victories is one battered... Beaten down briefcase. Or have we forgotten that the same stupid briefcase stopped Sunny from claiming the victory for our team?

Am I supposed to really be all that much afraid and all that much worried about a team who has to have that little ace in the hole for just that extra little push in the right direction? Are they all skilled and talented? Sure. Do they obviously... Obviously need an advantage? ...Yes. Because how else can you explain to me that Aimee and Lightning felt that instead of having Aimee... oh I don’t know, actually wrestle a match against me to find out who was the strongest woman here... That I had to get jumped, two-on-oned, hit in the back of the head with a briefcase and worked over until my awesome tag partner Sunny here came to make the save... You know what I noticed?

...When there was no briefcase... When it was just Me and Sunny versus the two of them... There was ONE Sunball Special and there was only one result... Together, even though we were getting a totes righteous sort of beatdown... We cleared the ring and you would have to believe that that...? That is just a sign of things to come for Breaking Point... And for the future. So do we feel confident? I don’t know why we shouldn’t. We have the FFW Champ here on our side and I feel that that near-mugging that took place doesn’t say anything else but that Of Poets And Prophets are beginning to get worried.

Sunny grinned at her partner’s response as the young lady sat down and another Fan was selected from the audience. This was a middle aged man who was wearing a “Tsunami” Shirt in homage to Eileen Amaro, he adjusted his glasses and asked his question.  Surprisingly he spoke in English, it wasn’t the best but he didn’t need a translator.

Fan #2: Ladies, how do you feel working as a team? Stephanie and Sun Hi are accustomed to being team members, but adding Wendy Briese how do you feel about a third wheel being added, so to speak.

Sunny: Wendy here not new to teaming, look at all times she joined others in FFW when facing Power Trip. Is it different? Of course. Is one thing to know someone like Steph and I know us, but another person put in that we not that familiar with leaves you reestablishing the dynamic. Thing that must be mentioned, we like Poets are in similar position. While Tara is not member of team, she is there and they must be of the teamwork, as we must with Wendy who is not our normal team member.  That said, we are on same page.

Unlike Sparky and Easter bunny, we are not with heads so full. We not think we are bestest ever and when Wendy joined us for this it not a question of who in charge, but rather of what we learning from each other.  Look at you, technical monster of Tara, a woman who shuns submission wrestling apparently, and cheatie mcCheaterton the third.  Now you have belts, you are good, you are talented...but you not show it. Except Tara, which make me wonder...how well you actually mesh as team?  You see Wendy and us may not always think the same, but we have the respect and honor of each other. Wendy is technical master and THE FFW CHAMPION!  Steph is power, more power than three of you combined. And me fast, super-sneaky like ninja of the movies, and full of energy like a ball of....well energy.  You three not mesh, while we mesh like Peanut butter, Jelly, and chocolate!

Stephanie here stops and blinks at her tag partner before letting out a chuckle.

Steph: Those... Those things mesh? I mean the three of them to be fair were members of the Power Trip. Err, well Lightning and Tara were members of the Power Trip. I’m not sure what Aimee was with that group but I’m going to guess a guest membership maybe? Could you have a guest membership with the Power Trip when it existed? Was that even possible?

She glances to Wendy for the answer and shrugged her shoulders.

Wendy: I’m not sure on the specifics, but does it even matter?  She may not be a card carrying member, but she certainly had the same mindset.  But the Power Trip is dead and gone, they lost, and that’s pretty much the all of it.  As far as working as a team goes, Sunny’s right.  Because we each bring something different to the table.  Moreso than that, we’re all complete wrestlers in our own right, and we all should serve to compliment each other in the ring.  You could say I’m the third wheel, I guess.  But at the same time, I am the FFW Champion, so I’d say that’s a pretty good third wheel.

But at the same time, it’s not like I’m going to be coming in with this mentality that since I’m the champion, it’s my way or the highway.  I think I can make Witches’ Brew look better in that ring, but at the same time, I think they can make me look better in the ring as well.  You know, we all put a lot of stock in experience in this business, and it certainly does count for a lot.  But there’s also something to be said about rookies and their energy and optimism, and the fact that they bring great, fresh ideas to the table that older veterans just don’t even consider, and that’s something that always needs to be remembered.

Wendy finishes her statement by looking directly at Sunny and Steph, as the hands raise for another question.

Fan #3 seems a bit nervous about the microphone, so to the amusement of the others, she whispers nervously into the translators ear, giggling as she backs away.

Translator: Your opponents are notorious for cheating and brutality, particularly Of Poets & Prophets.  Wendy, are you and the Witches’ Brew prepared to deal with the underhanded and cruel tactics that will inevitably be coming your way?

Wendy chuckles, both to calm the nervousness of the girl, and at the general concept of the question.

Wendy:  First of all, Tara Thunder doesn't cheat.  She’s too proud to do so, and that’s one of the reasons I respect her so much.  As far as the other two, particularly Aimee… well, we’ve seen their colors, and it’s only natural to assume that they’ll probably be resorting to it again.  I’d like to sit here and say that we’re going to blitz them so fast they won’t even have time to consider looking for that briefcase, but it’s not a perfect world, and keeping track of just one person in a Trios match is a bit difficult.  So I think it’s reasonable to expect that, and that gives us an advantage that we’ll be looking for, but…

Wendy bursts out laughing, shaking her head.

Wendy: I just beat Isabella Pazzini in a match where the first thing she did was ram my head into an exposed turnbuckle pad.  I survived that, I battled back, and I won, and Isabella’s ten times the wrestler Aimee Easter will ever be.  So, no, yeah, I’m prepared.  When you keep going to the well all the time, sooner or later that well’s going to dry up, and I think all three of us are going to make sure anything nefarious blows up SPECTACULARLY in their face.  Especially Sunny.  Between Aimee, the Rudos, Hexstar, and Club CK VIP, I think she’s MORE than sick of being the butt of other’s shenanigans.

Sunny: All want to step on us, because am fun and nice. They have briefcase and ambushes, not have guts to simply face. They make excuses about submission wrestling, and do the ....the....what is word?

Sunny holds her arms up and growls.

Sunny: Grrr I make of fun on you for no reason but to just do and have-TROLLING! That is word!  You troll and taunt, ambush and cheat. If not for Tara Thunder am thinking this match not start in the ring but in our locker room to try and give advantage and boost their egos.  As said Tara Thunder not cheat, maybe that put damper on style, or maybe makes them face us legitimately. Whatever, however, whenever...we ready now. Three sets of eyes, three souls ready to disarm and sunder you and your despicable ways.

Fan #4: Resuringu no nyūsu anata to Sanī-chan wa shinshin kiei no rikishi no tame ni shisetsu o kaisetsu shita koto o hōkoku shimasu. Anata wa watashitachi ni sono koto ni tsuite nanika o tsutaeru koto ga dekimasu ka?

Translator: Can you guys tell us about the facility that you and Sunny are trying to oversee for up-and-coming wrestlers like yourselves?

Stephanie cleared her throat and breathed out before she decided on how best to answer the question, once glance falling on her partner in crime and a slightly more... Worried glance on camera falling on the FFW Champion. As she began to speak, the translator spoke for her.

Steph: Well ladies and gentlemen the simple fact is this. There’s a lot of wrestlers out there who are extremely talented in the ring but lack some of the graces that befits a professional wrestler y’know. They may not be great in speaking situations like this or how to hold themselves in regards to meeting fans. Sunny and I are trying to give back the opportunity that we were given from Future Shock with this developmental facility known as Level X. It’s our hope that with this we can help other up-and-coming wrestlers get their foot in the door with demo reels of their wrestling matches, speaking classes, and finding themselves as a wrestler. Whereas there are wrestling gyms to perfect and hone and train their physical abilities and the important craft like in-ring psychology, athleticism and so on, we’re offering something different.

Sunny nods and giggles a little.

Sunny: That is right, this not to make them do bestest suplex or seven hundred and twenty degree fist drop. It is to help outside of that, for those who want it or need it. Steph and me not experienced wrestlers as some, and we not experts at in ring life.  But what some keep forgetting is that we know of wrestling. We lived the life outside the ring and around it, backstage and nearby it all. Those we love fought, and we felt the ripple of the effect. Sometimes in the form of pain and hospital visits. And what we saw we paid attention to. Rookies trampled, veterans suckered, games played.  And we want to teach others, to educate and show what we know so maybe...just maybe we can help them avoid the pain of said mistakes.

Steph opens her mouth to say something, but Wendy beats her to it,  leaning forward into the microphone.

Wendy: I actually toured the facility, and while I was unsure about it at first, the more and more I think about it, the more and more I believe it’s a very noble project.  They are addressing a problem that’s been very unconsidered by the veterans and executives of this sport, and one I never even really gave any thought to this week.  And while your ‘talking skills’ will never really be as important as what you do in that ring, the ability to at least sit here and do a press conference like we’re doing right now is a plus when you’re trying to get ahead in this business.  My biggest concern was that them running a school would pose a huge distraction to their fledgling careers, but now I’m wondering if it will do the exact opposite.  By teaching others, you often learn a few things yourself, and even the best of us are still learning things in this business.

A fifth fan, this one obviously Caucasian, stands up, looking at Wendy as he takes the microphone from the translator.

Fan #5: Yeah.  Wendy this is your second time facing Tara Thunder in a trios match, and last time, with Spectra Fantasia in your corner, you got completely demolished.  How does teaming with two unestablished rookies against the tag champs make things any better for you?

Wendy’s eyebrows arch at the almost rude bluntness of the question, but she merely shrugs.

Wendy: I don’t really think we got ‘demolished’ per se.  I mean, it was disappointing to lose like that, and at first, I did kind of blame myself for messing up the team chemistry.  I mean, I think it’s obvious by now that Val and I are kind of like oil and water.  But in the months that followed, we saw what Camilla did, and in hindsight, the cracks in Spectra’s foundation were probably already forming even then in Toronto.  I don’t have to worry about that this time. Sunny and Steph are like sisters, and completely in tune with each other.  There’s no jealousy or petty one-upsmanship to worry about here.  That makes it a lot easier to think about, remembering the last time.

As far as Tara goes… she’s always a nightmare to face.  There’s never any doubt about that, and I certainly don’t envy Caroline in getting her one on one at Anarchy.  But unlike me, who has got two partners who can compliment her, I’m not sure Tara’s as blessed.  She had Isabella and Starla the last time, two women she willingly chose to ally with, and two of the best wrestlers this company has ever seen, and women who have proven that they’re capable of teaming with anyone, no matter how disparate they are.  With Lightning and Aimee… there’s no longer the overlying principle of the Power Trip keeping them cohesive, it’s simply a marriage of convenience.  Despite her being the best wrestler on the team, she is the third wheel, and if things start going rough, and Lightning & Aimee need a scapegoat, that’s going to be her.  Synergy matters in trios matches, and I think our team has that advantage in buckets.

Sunny: BUCKETS!!

The Korean wrestler flexes her tiny, adorable biceps and trying to give the most intimidating face she could manage...as Steph literally facepalms.

Sunny: Steph and me not have any cracks in foundation, we smooth and perfect like that of...um....things and stuff. Steph and I are perfect together, we have lots of practice together. We work together not just in ring but outside, we are friends, best of friends.

Steph: To clarify, Sunny, Wendy, and myself are not just on the same page but have the same goal. We aren’t some random trios team, and we do not have the conflicting egos that ‘some’ teams may have. We know our strengths, we know our weaknesses and by god do we know how to utilize them. This isn’t some replay of that previous match, this is a whole new dance. And the three of us have our song lined up, the sound check is clear and it’s our turn on stage. Aimee, Sparky, Tara...choose your partner, it’s dancing time.

Some flashbulbs go off, and fans clamor to ask more questions, but the girls apologetically get up to leave, and the scene fades.
